The Vice President, Government Affairs, Marketing and Corporate Communications creates and implements strategies to generate federal funding support for programs of interest to the Company as well as introduces campaigns to create new opportunities and alternative sources of revenue.  Is responsible for all corporate lobbying efforts as well as briefing members of Congress, Committee staff and senior U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Pentagon officials regarding SATCOM acquisition, deployment and access to Commercial satellite services for the DoD and U.S. Government.  Additional Responsibility:  Provides oversight, mentors, and guides/manages the Marketing and Communications staff which is responsible for strategic corporate communications, executive and internal communications, marketing, advertising, media relations and conference events.

 

Experience/Qualifications

 

  • MBA or master’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Public Policy, Communications, or a minimum of ten years’ experience in a legislative position
  • Experience leading design and execution of Government Affairs strategies and campaigns
  • Knowledge of satellite, telecoms, media or other communications sectors
  • Ability to lead and supervise staff
  • Knowledge of Corporate Marketing and Communications
  • Ability to identify customer requirements, research policy/legislation, propose new legislative language to solve customer satellite requirements while expanding Company revenue growth     
  • Ability to sustain efforts on long term satellite solution projects spanning 6 - 18 months formulating policies/legislation that best meet customer satellite demands

Essential Job Functions:

 

Government Affairs

 

  • Proposes policy, legislative and appropriation initiatives relevant to the satellite industry  
  • Advances a corporate perspective to refine acquisition procedures, secure/protect funding and create strategic business opportunities for SES GS revenue generation
  • Advocates and secures funding for both existing government programs of interest as well as new opportunities for revenue generation and growth for the Company
  • Identifies strategic market movements for the U.S. Government, including areas for significant bandwidth demand and shapes relevant policy, budget and legislation to create an addressable, revenue-generating opportunity for SES GS
  • Executes campaigns focusing on senior Combatant Commanders, Pentagon officials, policymakers and budget appropriators to package the opportunity and position SES GS to compete for satellite bandwidth
  • Leads efforts to lobby, influence and educate Congressional leaders, their legislative staff, Congressional Committee leaders, sub-committee members and senior U.S. Department of Defense Pentagon officials on SATCOM acquisition, deployment and access to Commercial satellite services for the DoD/U.S. Government
  • Formulates and drives legislation to meet SES COMSATCOM capabilities/solutions with goal of positioning the Company for future revenue growth   
  • Meets with senior Department of Defense and U.S. Government officials to identify their most pressing satellite demands (customer requirements)
  • Researches policy/legislation affecting satellite services demand and proposes solutions by changing policy/legislation to meet customer requirements while strategically positioning future use of SES satellites – the goal of increasing future Company revenue      
  • Briefs DoD leadership on risks/opportunities regarding SATCOM capability and provides SATCOM solutions to meet security objectives – meets customer demands/SES GS revenue        
  • Authors, edits and proposes new language for U.S. legislation (bills) which can impact future commercial satellite deployment and services to DoD and U.S Government
  • Briefs DoD/Senior Pentagon officials regarding current state of satellite capacity around the world and how SES fleet of satellites can meet DoD and U.S Government current and future satellite demands
  • Drives satellite market intelligence to Fleet/Business Development regarding satellite capacity/demand for future SES fleet deployment while opening new revenue opportunities in competitive markets – this is achieved through extensive market research data, identifying and shaping customer requirements and building the business case to support spectrum satellite dedicated to the DoD and U.S. Government customers   
  • Leads Government Affairs campaigns creating strategic briefings on customer satellite requirements, implementing call plans to customers, briefing senior leaders on SES fleet capability, influencing policy/legislation to meet customer demands and SES fleet capacity
  • Advocates commercial satellite industry to enhance reputation/growth potential for SES GS

 

Marketing and Corporate Communications

 

  • Overall responsible for SES GS Communications, Marketing/Government Affairs department
  • Overseas all corporate communications, executive and internal communications, marketing, advertising, press and media relations, events, branding and social media campaigns with an aim at increasing brand awareness and market-facing, revenue-generating opportunities
  • Evaluates key business and organizational challenges relating to Marketing, Communications and Government Affairs and develops solutions to address the challenges
  • Ultimate responsibility for the development, execution of the annual Corporate Marketing and Corporate Communications Strategy
  • Leads/manages marketing communications team members - responsible for mentoring and raising the team’s ability to deliver against the Company objectives
  • Responsible for an annual marketing and communications budget more than $1M
